Guthrie News Leader shows true colors

To no surprise at all, the Guthrie News Leader has shown their true colors, once again, toward GuthrieSportsPage.com. I suppose the higher up is not the biggest GSP fan out there.

I suppose the higher up see's Guthrie Sports Page as competition? Kinda silly, but okay.

GNL asked if they could use a photo of a Kacey Acker signing with SNU. At first I was reluctant to do so because I have given them information, stats, and other tidbits in the past and of course there was no credit given to Guthrie Sports Page, but Kacey deserved her picture to be in the paper so everyone could see what she has accomplished so I did it for her and only her. By no means for GNL.

Although, it was on Guthrie Sports Page 30 minutes after she had signed her letter.

So, I sent GNL a picture of Kacey signing and put Guthrie Sports Page in the lower right corner of the photo. After all, GNL requested to use GSP material and guess what? Yep, it was cropped out and put into the paper with no mention of Guthrie Sports Page. Not that Guthrie Sports Page needs any attention from GNL.

I have held back numerous of times when GNL has done this type of thing in the past, but for some reason this time it hit a nerve.

As many people know, I am very easy to get along with and will continue to do so, but chalk this one up as a lesson learned, again.

I'd put a stipulation in sharing photos, such as you can use this if you don't crop our logo or give us credit. Because almost any other publication, Internet or print, would probably end up in a lawsuit.

Then again, I'm kinda a jerk about things like that

I don't know why the "higher up" person is still there - that paper is going so far downhill that it won't be around much longer if they keep doing things that way. It's all about the mighty dollar - forget what a local newspaper really means to a community and the future historical factors - they have left out a lot of events and people and screwed up a lot of names and such. In the future - someone may go back to look for archives....and they won't be there. So very sad. Why are they not up on these events and taking their own pictures? I can see once in awhile needing to get something from someone - but then they should be considerate and grateful and give the credit to the provider.

Belinda Ramsey, has used the paper as her own personal weapon to wage war on anything or anyone she disagrees with. In so doing, she has run the paper into the ground. Many have quit taking the paper, and many have quit advertising.

What a shame she chooses to be negative instead of using the aper to bring the community together. Is is only common courtesy, to give another professional credit, when they allow you to use thier product. Another bridge burned.

Ramsey has definitely hurt the paper more than she has helped it. If you noticed, they stopped giving anyone credit for anything in the paper. She removed all the by lines (author of the story). Zero editorials. We rarely get advanced notice of events. It's a mess. Chris sorry that happened but it's expected at this point.

No editorials you said it! GNL sucks really worse than ever!

The comment I would like to make is that GNL covers more that the Jays, they cover Langston, Crescent and any other school in the local area(almost all of Logan County). Whereas GSP focus's on only Guthrie High School. It is hard to be all over the county so I can understand things not being as thorough as a focused news group. Sounds a little like it is more important to get credit for a picture than it is to honor the student athlete. Don't be so petty.

I think the majority saw my point when I mentioned the above statement in my post. Perhaps you missed it Anonymous?

There is a long list of "petty" items like this that I could have brought up over the last two years, but I haven't.

With that said, Guthrie should be covered first in the "Guthrie" paper. After all it is the Guthrie News Leader and not the Logan County Leader.
