Duncan or El Reno for Jays in 1st Round

Duncan travels to El Reno for the 5A-1 district title this Friday night and a lot of Guthrie folks will be awaiting the outcome of that one.

The winner is the district champ while the loser finishes second and hosts the Jays for the first round of the play-off's.

Second ranked El Reno shut-out the Jays back in Week 2, at the Rock, 18-0, and would be interesting, once again, to see the match-up, but only this time it will be at 9-1 El Reno. Guthrie had won the previous eight meetings.

Both teams are familiar with each other and would be a very interesting first round match-up. However, the current Guthrie Sports Page poll results have 62% of people wanting to see Guthrie and Duncan in the first round.

Duncan is currently 8-1 and winners of their last six games. The only setback this season was back in Week 3 to the Carl Albert Titans 38-6. Guthrie fans know all about this years Carl Albert team.

It is scary to compare Duncan's and Guthrie's defenses: GHS allows 84-yards rushing while DHS allows 82-yards. GHS allows 122-yards a game through the air and DHS comes in at 125. GHS allows 15-points a game and Duncan allows 16-points a game.

Guthrie trots out a freshmen quarterback (Bryan Dutton) and Duncan throws out a sophomore quarterback (Brandon Wilson). Duncan averages 27-points a game and Guthrie scores 25-points. Duncan runs the ball better and wants to run it every down, but Guthrie passes the ball better.

Duncan's opponent are a combine 41-49 while the Jays opponents come in with an astounding 46-44 record. Very odd do you find a schedule with a winning record and many would say the Jays have had the tougher schedule by playing the current the No. 1, 2, and 4 team in 5A.

No matter who losses in El Reno, Friday night, it will be very interesting for the Jays in the first round.
