How does Guthrie even come up?

Everyone knows by now the issues that are going on at Jenks with all the scandal and ongoing issues, in which, The Oklahoman's Jenni Carlson wrote a column about the issue and brought up other schools that needed to "turn the mirror on yourself."

Here is a portion of the column:

Every high-profile prep program in the state should consider this a wake-up call.

Time to turn the mirror on yourself and see if there are any warts.

This means you, Tulsa Union. You too, Carl Albert. Ditto for Tulsa Washington and Guthrie, Bishop McGuinness and Heritage Hall, Southmoore and Tulsa Cascia Hall.

I’m not saying any of those successful programs are doing anything wrong. Not by a long shot. Chances are good they aren’t. It’s likely that rules are being followed and violations are being avoided.

Still, you have to wonder if folks at Jenks thought the same thing about their football program.

Guthrie, really? What gives any indication of Guthrie being mention with these private, magnet, and open districts schools? Guthrie is the only school that you would consider a community. Southmoore could be in that community talk, but several move-ins this year at Southmoore is the only reason why they were mention, but are also in an open district like Carl Albert.

If Jenni check her facts before typing she would see that a majority and I do mean a majority of GHS football players have grown up in Guthrie: Kye Staley, Keaton Callins, David Washington, Brent Hodge, Josh King, Donte' Foster, Demarko Jones, and the list can go on and on.

Yes, there has been some move-ins into the Guthrie district as most districts see, but not sure I can recall any 4-star recruits coming in for one or two years.

It's a compliment for Guthrie being mention with these type of programs and Jenni has written nice articles about Guthrie and Guthrie kids in the past, but Jenni did not think real hard on Guthrie before printing it in her column.

I think you misunderstand by what she wrote.

She put Guthrie in a class of powerhouse programs.(Given, Southmoore isn't, but they have the staying power to become one.)

She's basically saying, watch yourself programs, or you'll end up like Jenks.

For years people have openly speculated that Jenks has done all these violations and probably a lot more that we'll find out about after Wednesday's hearing.

However, she is not implying, insinuating, or hinting at the fact that Guthrie would be guilty of the violations.

In the big picture I think you are right, but if you look at each of the schools that she grouped Guthrie with, it is well known that people think each of those schools somehow, somewhat recruit like we thought Jenks did.

Guthrie has never been mention before in the same breath as these other schools before (private, magnet, etc).

Why not mention other teams that has more of a tradition then Guthrie has like a Clinton or Ada for exmaple? Because Guthrie really has not had the move-ins as the other schools listed has.
She is not implying Guthrie has done these things, but suggests that they better look in the mirror.

Why should Guthrie look in the mirror? I can think of one kid that moved in from Texas to play one year here in Guthrie and he had no stars beside his name.

Im with Chris, she may not have meant anything by it, but to add certain powerhouse names in a category with jenks'trouble, makes the fore-mentioned look bad. whether they have done anything wrong or not, just for her 2 bring out certain schools like that, in essence, insinuates. i guarantee you, many of the people that read that article, will have raised eyebrows, wondering if the mentioned schools are doing it too. people trust the word of big paper columnists.
