Tough Week for 5A-2

In Class 5A football talk, 5A-2 is often brought up as one of the toughest districts in the entire state and rightfully so, but Week 1 was not a reflection of that.

The district was a combined 2-6 in the first week of play and the two wins were against Chickasha and McLoud, who combined a season ago went 8-13.

Guthrie - McGuinness (12-7)
*McGuinness is a good team and will win some games this season, but Guthrie is the better team.

Carl Albert - Booker T. (27-6)
* No surprise the result and we really can not take much from this except that Booker T. is the elite of the elite in 5A. Carl Albert will not go away and will be there in the end. Nothing new for them to lose in the non-district.

Ardmore - Ada (21-18)
* Tremendous game in a rivalry game that many do not know about.

Durant - McAlester (35-0)
* Surely Vype Magazine did not have the Lions as their second team in 5A-2? Misprint, right?

Noble - Tecumseh (21-20)
* Tecumseh won three games last year.

Capitol Hill - Douglass (54-0)
* Glorified scrimmage for Douglass

Shawnee - Chickasha (38-24)
* The Wolves seemed to have more trouble then expected, but hey its a win and many would take it right now.

Harrah - McLoud (19-7)
* The Panthers getting the wins as much as possible before district play hits.

Ada & Ardmore have always been a heated rivalry. It just really lost it's luster the past 10 years since both programs are in decline.

Well, the rivalry (Ardmore/Ada)stepped up a bit the last few years with the coaching change. I just dont think people know how big it is across the state.
